What is the Camp Mather – Teen Outdoor Experience?
The Teen Outdoor Experience is a 4-days overnight summer camp for teen boys and girls 14-17 years of age and residents of San Francisco. The dates of the camp are Thursday, August 23 to Sunday, August 26, 2018. Participants will participate in a comprehensive outdoor recreational experience to demonstrate their potential in becoming outdoor recreational leaders. As part of the camping experience, selected participants will be recruited into a leadership program, given the opportunity to assist in camps operated by the Recreation and Parks Department, and gain valuable experience necessary to become leaders and mentors in their communities. This camping/leadership opportunity will open a door for job placement, job training, and/or job readiness through Recreation and Park and the SF Police Department. The identification of participants for the leadership program will be based on criteria put forth by the Recreation and Parks Department. Camp Mather is located on the outskirts of Yosemite National Park, approximately 3 hours from San Francisco, in the High Sierra mountains. The camp is owned by the City and County of San Francisco and operated by the San Francisco Department of Recreation and Parks. |
