Summer Book Drive Internship

The Corporation for National and Community Service is a federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service through AmeriCorps and Senior Corps. The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

Coordinator, Summer Children’s Book Drive

Duties: In conjunction with the federal summer initiative “Let’s Read”, the Children’s Book Drive collects gently used books to distribute to low-income children in the Oakland CA. area. The Coordinator establishes a time-line for the drive, creates the publicity, and enlists local businesses and governmental agencies in the effort.  The Coordinator collects books from donation sites and organizes an event to sort the books.  The Coordinator involves CNCS streams of service (i.e. AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members) to participate in the Book Drive and Book Sort.

Qualifications: Must be able to take initiative, communicate well (written and verbal), conduct community outreach and lift and transport books.

Start/End Dates: June – August (dates flexible)
Compensation: Volunteer
Room/Board provided: No
Schedule/Hours per Week: Minimum two days a week (6-8 hours per week during regular business hours)
