FACES for the Future Coalition Summer Medical Academy is extending its application deadline for those students still working to complete their packets.
Applications are now due on May 15, 2012
FACES for the Future Coalition, a project of the Public Health Institute, is excited to announce that applications are now available for our 2012 Summer Medical Academy. Offered in partnership with Samuel Merritt University (SMU) in Oakland, CA., the program dates of the FACES Coalition Summer Medical Academy are July 9 – July 20, 2012, and the program will be held on SMU’s campus in Oakland.
Designed as a way to expose high school students to careers in the medical and health professions, the Academy offers just some of the following:
- Professionally lead clinical skills workshops in such areas as taking vital signs, suturing, and CPR
- Workshops and lectures that discuss topics like medical ethics, public health, health disparities, patient centered care, culture competency and international medicine
- Project based learning at Samuel Merritt University’s state-of-the-art surgical simulation laboratory
- Field trips to local educational facilities to learn about gross anatomy, pathology, biomedical research and residential palliative care.
