Nov 8 – 10, 2013 @ San Francisco, California Mission High School – 3750 18th Street, SF, CA 94114
On Friday, November 8, the Coalition of Essential Schools will bring back the Student Leadership Forum as part of our Fall Forum Pre-Conference Day.
The Essential Question guiding this year’s Student Leadership Forum, “What do we (students) need to know and do in order to advocate effectively for ourselves and for others who may not be able to advocate for themselves?” aligns with our larger theme: Making the Invisible Visible: stories and counterstories for educational equity.
The objectives for this day will be for each student to:
-
Learn tools and strategies to advocate for justice when they or others are experiencing injustice
-
Engage in and practice using a workshop model
-
Collaborate to develop workshops on advocacy related topics that they feel are important for adult/ educators to know
Students who participate in the Student Leadership Forum will have the option to present up to three of their developed workshops at the Fall Forum on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
This year, one of the CES local affiliate centers, The San Francisco Coalition of Essential Small Schools SF-CESS, is partnering with San Francisco Peer Resources to develop and deliver the curriculum for the Student Leadership Forum. Space is limited, so be sure to register your students ASAP and consider sending those students who will bring their new learning and leadership back to your own school site!
The Student Leadership Forum starts at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm, Friday, November 8.
Registration for the Student Leadership Forum is $50 per student before October 1 and $75 per student on or after October 1. The registration fee covers breakfast and lunch which will be provided by Fall Forum.
