The SMYSP Summer Residential Program (SRP) is an annual science- and
medicine-based enrichment program open to low-income and ethnically diverse high
school sophomores and juniors who live in northern and central California. Ten
Stanford undergraduate counselors guide 24 students through a 5-week residential
program held on the Stanford University campus. Hospital internships, anatomy
laboratories, and lectures provided by Stanford faculty expose students to
hands-on science and a variety of health, medicine, and science careers.
Additionally, students receive college admissions guidance, SAT preparation and
resume writing as well as conduct scientific research projects to bolster their
academic skills. Students are matched with adult mentors throughout the summer
and become part of the SMYSP alumni association, which offers additional
mentorship and resources, upon graduation. There is no cost to participate in
SMYSP.
