About Eliot Smith

Eliot is currently the Athletic Director and Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Lick-Wilmerding High School. Eliot has been a coach and teacher at Lick-Wilmerding for the past 27 years and has worked camps for Coach Pat Riley of the Miami Heat and former Coach John Wooden of UCLA as well as directing camps for the Golden State Warriors.Eliot began his coaching career in 1977 as a junior in high school and he has been coaching ever since. Coach Eliot’s strategies are not just about winning on the field of play. His philosophy of coaching has helped students achieve success in the sporting arena and in life by emphasizing the importance of priorities, self- control and belief in others. Eliot Smith has been recognized for his teaching and coaching skills on numerous occasions. Eliot has won the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year Award from the Northern California Officials Association 3 times (1991, 1993, 1995). In 1995 Eliot was the recipient of a certificate of recognition as an outstanding educator. A full scholarship to Cornell University is issued annually to a deserving student in Eliot’s name.Since 1995, Eliot has motivated hundreds of administrators, teachers, sports teams, and students of all ages. Eliot also coaches and mentors hundreds of kids every year at his Tiger Basketball Camps.Eliot Smith has been recognized for his teaching and coaching skills on numerous occasions…Eliot was honored in 2012 as the National Coach of the Year by the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Eliot Smith Tiger Basketball Camp was started in the summer of 1993 at Lick-Wilmerding High School.
