Kundiman is a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing writers and readers of Asian American literature. From July 8 – 12, 2018, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, we’ll host the Youth Leadership Intensive in NYC. (Read more on our website!) Students will study Asian American literature and history, receive counsel from leading Asian American writers, artists, and industry innovators, and engage in a culminating creative writing/oral history project together. Our goal is to nurture leaders that are strongly grounded in a rich legacy of Asian American letters, all while building a strong community that can continue to support them. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2019.
Last year was our first-ever Youth Program, and the feedback was astounding. One of our students, Emily Lu, said: “The Kundiman Youth Intensive was the most transformative experience of my life. I hadn’t realize how starved I had been for a space that was devoted to being uniquely Asian American. I felt completely understood and embraced by people who could relate to what my life was like. Finally, here was a way that I could situate myself in history, literature, and community, without having to codeswitch or struggle to feel represented.”
