Project Details
Agency: Lighthouse for the Blind
Date of Project: 19-MAY-2018
Time: 09:30 AM to 05:00 PM
Project Location: San Mateo Event Center 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo, CA, US

What to Expect:
Maker Faire is a celebration of the Maker Movement, a showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Faire gathers together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. Makers come to show their creations and share how they made them, and lessons learned.
Founded in 1902, San Francisco’s LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired promotes the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or have low vision. The original Maker Faire is still the largest one, and it is here in Silicon Valley, in LightHouse’s backyard. Volunteers are needed to take part as sighted guides so the Maker Fair will become accessible to blind students ages 14 to 30.
Supplies/Refreshments Provided by Agency:
To better accommodate ALL DAY volunteers, we will be meeting at SF LightHouse Headquarters at 7:30am for training. There are a few ways to meet at LightHouse: public transportation or drive and park your car in SF. If you take public transport we are located above the Civic Center BART/MUNI stop – 1100 Market St. exit or United Nations Plaza exit. If you decide to drive and park your car, your parking is reimbursable by LightHouse not Oracle.
What to Bring:
Shuttle provided from SF LightHouse HQ (see below) for ALL DAY volunteers. However, volunteers may drive directly to the San Mateo Event Center but parking is at your own expense. Please arrive at San Mateo venue by 9:30am. Oracle t-shirts will be distributed at that time.
