ViviendasLeón offers students the opportunity to experience Nicaragua not as a tourist but as a member of the community.
Students live and work with Nicaraguans during their two-week stay in and around the city of León.
Students not only work together as a group but also alongside members of the community on an authentic development project. These projects can range from helping to build a school that will bring primary education to rural children to building a communal commercial bakery that will help increase economic stability. These are real projects that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
Students work hard every morning in a rural community, but spend the afternoons learning about Nicaragua with daytrips to places like the Miraflor Reserve—considered one of the greatest areas of biodiversity in Central America or hiking one of the craters in Volcan National Park.
Students are paired and live with a Nicaraguan family in the university town of León.
Evenings are spent with their homestay families or exploring the music and food of León.
