Reading Partners is a literacy nonprofit that empowers community members to work one-on-one with struggling elementary school readers. No experience is required to tutor with us, as we provide all of the materials and training, as well as the support of a full-time staff member. We use a structured curriculum that is easy to follow, and includes step-by-step instructions. Our tutors commit to working for at least one hour per week for one semester, so that they can be paired to work with the same student, and act as role models and friends to their younger Reading Partner. Although the time commitment is small, our volunteers make an incredible impact – on average, our elementary students double their rate of learning, while in our program!
Reading Partners offers internship and volunteer opportunities for high school students. Although we realize that the school schedule and students’ existing extracurricular involvement can be a challenge, we are looking forward to finding the best way to connect with Lick-Wilmerding students!
