It’s that time of year again—and the seniors that Curry Senior Center serves in the Tenderloin and South of Market can feel especially bereft; many of them are either homeless or without family close by. We can make this time of year a thankful time for them. Will you help? Here are the opportunities:
Serve meals in the Curry Dining Room located at 333 Turk Street, San Francisco
Five volunteers needed per lunch shift and two per breakfast shift daily. Will you be one? Typical tasks: serving the seniors and cleaning up. Project Open Hand provides the food.
- Breakfast shift: 7:30 – 9:30 am
- Lunch shift: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Help with gift-bag stuffing
Come to Curry Senior Center December 12 – December 14 and help stuff gift bags to be given out at the holiday parties. Times are flexible. Items for the gift bags are contributed by local businesses.
Host a clothing or “basic essentials” drive for seniors.
Many seniors in the Tenderloin cannot afford essentials like toothpaste, soap, and shampoo. You can make a difference in their daily lives by contributing such items or hosting a drive at your office or school to collect for them. Let’s make this a true thanksgiving for all of our low-income seniors in the neighborhoods Curry serves.
