The San Francisco Environmental Youth Council (SFEYC) is a student led team representing San Francisco students, and collaborating to cause positive change for our planet.
Council members will work with representatives from different schools, as well as locally based environmental organizations to mobilize San Francisco youth to act for the environment. For SFEYC’s pilot year, two students from each of six San Francisco independent high schools will be selected to the Council. Your school is one of the six!
There are many ways to achieve our goal of increasing independent school students’ participation in green initiatives; however, SFEYC will focus on one significant project for the 2012-2013 school year. We have introduced SFEYC to two excellent local organizations, and both would love to work with SFEYC this coming year. First, we have an opportunity to work with ACE (Alliance for Climate Education), whose mission is to educate high school students on the science behind climate change and inspire action to curb global warming. SFEYC would partner with ACE to design a project tailored to the Council’s objectives. A second and equally exciting option is for SFEYC to launch a Carrotmob campaign, a community based event that would result in meaningful contribution to a designated environmental cause.
For more info, contact sfyouthcouncil@gmail.com by September 5, 2012. SFEYC representatives will be announced by September 8, 2012, and our first meeting will take place on Saturday, September 15 (at that time, we will vote on the best day/time to hold meetings).
